Felicitas Katepa-Mupondwa

Dr. Felicitas Katepa-Mupondwa holds a Doctorate in Plant Breeding from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Saskatchewan. She conducted research in Brassica breeding and genetics for ten years and is now the Director of Research, Science and Technology in the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), based at the Saskatoon Research and Development Centre. Felicitas directs science and technology at AAFC Centers in Saskatchewan, including research in molecular biology, particularly in Brassica, cereal and pulse crops.

She is the National Director for the Cereal and Pulse Science Strategy within AAFC, setting priorities, allocating resources, directing research and engaging with relevant public and private sector stakeholders. Felicitas is the Canadian Focal Point for the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) and she is the North American Vice Chair and member of the Bureau of the Seventh Governing Body (GB) of the ITPGRFA. She was also a Bureau member of GB 06. Felicitas led the Canadian delegations to the 14th Regular Session of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and to the Sixth Governing Body of the ITPGRFA. She has served on intersessional Committees of the ITPGRFA and is currently a member of the Compliance Committee and the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group to Enhance the Functioning of the Multilateral System of Access and Benefit-sharing. Felicitas also leads the genetics and genomics priority in the Canada-China Joint Committee on Science and Technology.
