The Germinate Platform

The Germinate Platform

The efficient management and distribution of experimental data is important to ensure uptake of valuable germplasm into breeding and research programmes. Being able to access and share this data in standard formats is essential in this process. The adoption of a common informatics platform for crops which may have limited resources brings economies of scale allowing common informatics components to be rolled out across multiple species. Germinate provides a common platform on which data and information from plant breeding and genetics projects and from plant genetic resources collections can be made available to users using state of the art web technologies and integration with other analysis and visualization tools.

The new Germinate paper will be published later in the year and shows Germinate’s use across 15 diverse species from a number of large international projects. Germinate is already a stable platform and continues to attract long term underpinning funding to ensure its development and advancement both through competitive funding from organisations such as the Crop Trust, DivSeek and CIMMYT and institutional support from the James Hutton Institute/Scottish Government. It is an open-source project and all code and documentation can be downloaded from https://github.com/germinateplatform.

For additional information on Germinate, to arrange a demo or just to have a chat about your project requirements and if Germinate would be useful to you please contact Paul Shaw ([email protected]). We also have a demo database available here which provides an sandbox for trying the system and its features.
